Ed Kania, Chairman

Mr. Kania is the Managing Partner and Chairman of Flagship Ventures. Prior to co-founding Flagship Ventures in 1999, he spent 15 years as Managing General Partner of OneLiberty Ventures and as General Partner at its predecessor firm, Morgan Holland Ventures. His direct investment experience covers over 100 companies. In addition, he has been intimately involved in the launch and development of more than a dozen companies as the founding and lead investor. Mr. Kania is currently a director of Aspect Medical Systems (Nasdaq: ASPM), EXACT Sciences (Nasdaq: EXAS), AblaTx, Acceleron Pharma, Epitome Biosciences, and TransMedics. He holds a degree in physics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Per G. H. Lofberg, President & CEO of Merck Capital Ventures, LLC

Per Lofberg was formerly Chairman of Merck-Medco Managed Care, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc. Merck-Medco is the country's largest provider of prescription drug benefit management services, with responsibility for administering prescription drug plans for over 52.3 million Americans covered through employers, unions, insurance companies, HMO's, and state and federal programs. Merck-Medco, employing over 11,000 people, operates mail service pharmacies and manages nationwide networks of participating retail pharmacies. Mr. Lofberg joined Medco in 1988 and was Senior Executive Vice President - Strategic Planning and Marketing, a member of the Office of the President, and a Director of the company prior to the acquisition by Merck in 1993. Previously, he spent 15 years with the Boston Consulting Group, Inc. in Boston; Munich, West Germany; and New York. He was the Partner in charge of the firm's New York office and responsible for the worldwide practice in health care. Mr. Lofberg has an M.S. degree from the Graduate School of Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and an undergraduate degree from the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden.

Kirtland Poss, Co-founder, President & CEO

Prior to co-founding VisEn in June of 2000, Mr. Poss attended the FW Olin School of Business at Babson College and worked for Boston Scientific Corporation in a healthcare strategy group. Before business school and BSC, he was a Manager for several years at Kendall Strategies, a business consulting firm working exclusively with biomedical companies. Earlier in his career, Mr. Poss developed his scientific background in chemistry, molecular biology and imaging at the Center for Molecular Imaging Research, where he worked with Dr. Ralph Weissleder in developing novel imaging agents and molecular drug delivery systems.

Erik Walldén

Mr. Walldén joined VisEn's Board of Directors on February 8, 2007. Previously, he served as the President and CEO of Biacore International AB, which was sold after a successful turnaround to GE Healthcare in September 2006. Before joining Biacore International in 2004, Mr. Walldén worked as President and CEO of Pyrosequencing AB, where he developed and commercialized several leading technologies into established industry-leading platforms and brands. While there, he successfully led the company's growth from venture financing through an initial public offering. Prior to his tenure at Pyrosequencing, he was instrumental in establishing and growing companies such as PerSeptive Biosystems, Inc. (part of Applied Biosystems); Pharmacia Biosensor AB (part of Biacore International); and Pharmacia Biotech (currently a component of GE Healthcare Life Sciences). He is currently CEO of Affibody AB, and serves on the boards of the Industrial Supervisory Board of Healthinvest Partners AB, Proxeon S/A, and Bergekullen Fastighets AB. Mr. Wallden holds degrees in analytical chemistry and biochemistry from Uppsala University.

Ralph Weissleder, MD, Ph.D., Co-founder, Scientific Advisory Board

A co-founder of VisEn, Dr. Weissleder is a Professor at Harvard Medical School, Director of both the Center for Molecular Imaging Research and the Center for Systems Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Attending Interventional Radiologist at MGH. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed articles. He is a founding member of the Society for Molecular Imaging Research and has served as its President in 2002. He is the recipient of numerous scientific awards including the Allyn Taylor Prize in International Medicine, an SMI Lifetime Achievement Award and a Millenium Innovator in Medicine award. Scientifically, he is known for his significant contributions to molecular imaging research. Most of his profoundly impacting work has been aimed at cancer, atherosclerosis and inflammatory diseases and has led to new approaches on how these diseases are approached and managed. His research has been highly translational and some of his developments have led to advanced clinical trials with anticipated major impacts when these methods become routinely available. Harry Wilcox

Mr. Wilcox began working as an advisor to Visen in 2005 and joined the Board in 2007, bringing a rich set of experiences and expertise in financial management, operations, fund management and strategy. His career spans 28 years and has involved many different roles and functions and public and private companies in the life sciences space, including positions as CFO, Sr. VP BD, and CEO, at EXACT Sciences, Thrasos Therapeutics, and Pyrosequencing. He is currently CFO and Partner at Flagship Ventures. Mr. Wilcox has a deep background in the venture capital community, including tenures with Highland Capital Partners where he was the founding CFO and General Partner, and prior to that, Charles River Ventures.
